Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY)

The old UPA schemes i.e. NRY, UBSP and PMIUPEP have been replaced by a new unified schemes viz. Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) with effect from 1.12.97. An amount of Rs.300.46 lakhs has been treated as the opening balance under the new scheme as per the instruction of the Government of India. An Amount of Rs.24.40 lakhs under Scheme for Housing and Shelter in Urban areas (SHASU) component was subsequently added to the opening balance of SJSRY. An amount of Rs.233.65 lakhs was sanctioned during 1997-98 and 1998-99, Rs.58.33 lakhs in 1999-2000 and Rs. 60.19 lakhs in 2000-01. Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) is the centrally sponsored schemes funded on a 75:25 basis between the Centre and the States. This scheme aims towards employment generation and improvement of the physical and social environment of the urban poor and the urban poor neighbourhood respectively.
